1940年代に設立され、多くのビバップの重要作を手掛けたレーベル、SAVOYのもう一つの側面、ゴスペルに焦点を当てたコンピレーション。第一集は1954年から1966年にかけて録音されたもの。伝統的なゴスペルもドゥワップ、ジャズ、ブルース、R&Bからの影響を受け、公民権運動の最中で高まる時代の雰囲気を反映した勢いのある曲調のものが多い。ステイプル・シンガーズ、ジミー・スコットらビッグネームの初期録音やSP、45sのみでリリースされたローカル・アーチストの曲を含む全24曲。アメリカのルーツ・ミュージックを好む方は是非。監修は多くのゴスペル・コンピを手掛けるグレッグ・ベルソン。マスターテープからの音源をアビーロード・スタジオでリマスタリングしたハイ・クオリティなアナログ盤2枚組。
